Microsoft is set to Unveil its Answer to the Ipad

Technology giant Microsoft is believed to have sent a media invitation out signaling a big announcement for  Monday ,June 18.As the company is slated to release its PC and tablet Windows 8 ,market is rife with speculation that Microsoft is all set to venture into a totally new segment of Tablets.

Hewlett  Packward and Samsung are already expected to hit the markets with their own Windows 8 Tablets but it is the 1st indication that Microsoft is going for  Tablet production itself.

This device is meant to square Apple’s blockbuster Ipad which began to threaten Microsoft’s hegemony in Computer business. For decades, Microsoft has made the software that runs a majority of the world’s personal computers, leaving a bunch of outside hardware companies to design and manufacture  the machines whereas  Apple, its arch-rival, makes it all & hence has remained highly profitable and more competitive in this decade.Apple  success story and its vision of becoming the 1st corporation to hit 1 trillion $ by this decade end has baffled its close competitors. Microsoft being at the top of this technology pandemonium chart wants to mimick Apple’s Business model  brazenly into its competitive strategy and tablet was the missing link in Microsoft’s digital ecosystem of products which if successful will drive its Windows smartphones and Desktop sales in the future.

The main features expected from Microsoft’s Windows  8 powered tablets are:

1)    Windows 8 Tablets will run on ARM,AMD & Intel chips- Windows 8 for ARM tablets will come out at the same time as Windows 8 for x86 PCs, if everything goes as per the plan. Intel  Windows 8 Tablets will arrive in November  .

2)    New Metro User Interface- Although the new user interface is designed and optimised for touch, it works equally well with a mouse and keyboard which means it will herald a new generation of Hardware and Software development for PC enthusiasts around the world.
In February Microsoft confirmed that new ARM versions of Windows 8 tablets would have the traditional desktop as well as the new Metro interface - but it will only allow third-party Metro apps.

3)    Traditional Menu is replaced  by Metro interface.

4)    Pricing- Entry level slates could hit the shelves with price tags of under $300 – but it would be very tough to sustain  this price for High-quality performance oriented tablets. Indeed, Windows 8 manufacturers seem to be suggesting that Windows 8 touchscreen devices won't be cheap - Dell said in May that they would be priced higher - although he was mainly talking about laptops.

5)    Display- Windows 8 supports a 10.1-inch tablet display with 291 pixels per inch resolution. The new iPad has 265 ppi. That probably means HD resolution tablet displays will be a standard feature of Windows 8 tablets.

6)     App Store-  Windows 8 will come with a number of pre-installed Metro apps, which look set to include things like a camera, messaging, mail, calendar, SkyDrive, people, photos, video and music.
The apps will be in the Windows Phone Metro style and some, like messaging may incorporate mobile aspects like SMS support.

As per the IDC latest report,Apple’s Ipad share is presently 62.5 % of Global Tablet market.
Microsoft and its hardware partners  are  hoping to push Apple's iPad to less than 50 percent of the global tablet market by mid-2013 .The extent to which Microsoft will be successfully implement and reap this competitive strategy will be judged by Market reaction to it in the next week to come.
